Kolo Moser's Book For A Little Viennese Girl

He was an older man and she was a young brewery heiress when they met ... in 1903. Koloman Moser (1868-1918) was a professor at the Vienna School for Arts and Crafts (Kunstgewerbeschule) and a founder of the Wiener Werkstaette. Editha (called Ditha) Mautner von Markof (1883-1969), a student at the Kunstgewerbeschule, was the child of one of Austria's wealthiest industrialists. They married in 1905 and worked on their art together.
During their courtship, Kolo designed and illustrated this charming book for his sweetheart's little niece. Dogs, dwarfs, red snails, ladies with handbags, 'happy bakers' and witches in plaid coats: all on the march for the entertainment and education of a lucky little girl.

Thanks you, Susanna. I see that you, too, are from New Jersey, so I'll enjoy your website. I'm from Essex County, although I now live in New York State. Last autumn I posted an article about Ringwood Manor with photographs taken by my parents before I was born. Hoping to do a re-photography project next year.
