Blanco y Negro was an independent Spanish magazine, founded in 1891. Known for the high quality of its articles and illustrations, it was the first Spanish periodical to publish color photography in 1912. D. Ramon Estrella, whose Jack-in-the-Box cover appeared during the 1920s, remains a mystery.

I love this! I don't know if the image is high enough resolution for the poster and printing needs, but it's wonderful! I'll see what I can find out about D. Ramon Estrella, although if it's a mystery, probably won't find out much! Thanks a bunch, Jane. I knew you were the correct source. - Jeanne
If you have access to Adobe Photoshop (at your local library, probably), you can tinker with the resoultion. I saved it in high resolution, so good luck.
Ramon Estrella seems to be a common name in Spanish. "Blanco y Negro" had some vivid artwork, but searching for it in English is not easy. Mariana's "Art Deco" blog has featured several covers from the magazine.
I found some at a Magazine cover site also. They have lots and lots of Negro y Blanco. Gorgeous. Thanks for letting me know about this magazine. -Jeanne
Let me know the url for that website, please.
Jane, here is the Web site url: http://www.advertisingarchives.co.uk/index.php
Images are protected and you can browse but if you use images you must destroy copies (I'm assuming you buy them, or in this case, rent) after 90 days. You must get permission each time you use them. I found a magazine cover of the jack in the box for sale at derbycityprints.com for $125! Don't know if our advertising budget would support that purchase. I'll work on this in Photoshop. - Jeanne
