Our Winter Number Begins Here

There's a bit of rococo in the illustrations of Charles Martin (1868-1934). The sky may be gray and wintry but there is a lot going on in this image of a sassy skater. Maybe the house is painted green to remind that although winter is here, spring is the upcoming attraction.

Oh, these images from the past few days make me feel chilled, even though I'm missing all the snow.

The ideal, I think, would by 'Hollywood snow.' A pretty dusting on trees and rooftops, but nothing on the streets and sidewalks, nothing that needs to be shoveled or scraped or chopped.
