Again, a painting by the underrated French Symbolist Henri le Sidaner (1862-1939). In L'Eveche you can almost see the last light of a late autumn afternoon moving indoors. The colors coalesce around the door, like guests gathering.

Very lovely.
Beautiful, his paintings are always so full of atmosphere it makes you want to step into them.
This is gorgeous. In a recent photography class we were exploring taking photos at twilight about 5-10 minutes apart of the front of our homes and noticing how the light changes and views of the windows change with the light.
Yes, Robert, we are of like mind on this.
Dash, have you noticed that Le Sidaner almost never includes human figures in his paintings, even though windows are often lit up from inside? A very Symbolist thing to do.
Jeanne, so good to hear from you. Your mention of photography is spot on, in more ways than one. Le Sidaner often painted half-lights, moonlight, and hazy darkness. Also, it's hard to imagine a painter before photography cropping the scene in "L'Eveche" this way. Perhaps, you are psychic!
Ce tableau est une merveille. Merci de me l'avoir fait découvrir.
Bien cordialement.
This picture is a marvel. Thank you for having made it me discover.
Fine.
