I think I've mentioned before - but it's worth repeating - that I first saw these prints in 1986 and, when I finally got to hold a copy of L'An (The Year, 1897)the book they were created for, it was a thrill. The prints were beautifully done and the book must have been very expensive when it was made. No wonder the copies that are for sale cost thousands of dollars. The first of each month this year will bring another Franz Melchers, so keep watching.
A blue-shaded lamp served as the starboard light for writer Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette's imaginary journeys after she became too frail to leave her room. Her invitation, extended to all, was "Regarde!" Look, see, wonder, accept, live.
